94.7 kiddies cycle challenge

For the second year in a row the kids took part in the 94.7 kiddies cycle challenge. I think the photos say it all :)

Michael was just VERY upset (see the last photo) to leave as he wanted to race again.

The circus is/was in town - 28 October 2009

Brian's Cirus was in town for a few weeks and after A LOT of begging and A LOT of pleading, I relented and took the kids. It of course did not help that the circus had been set up a stone's throw from my house :). Anyway, I went with my two kids and a friend with another two kids in tow. Michael loved it - he was absolutely mesmerized. Andrew could not believe how (in his words) "awesome" the acts were and is now determined that a circus-life is just for him.

October 2009 - Finally!

I think since our wedding Ed and I have only had about 4 or 5 photographs taken of just the two of us and invariably one of us looks dreadful in the photo. I think we have now eventually gotten a nice one.........

Year-end function - 24 October 2009

It was my company's annual year-end function at the end of October - it was really a great evening and it was great to get out a bit :)

I LOVE this country's weather and it would be seriously difficult for me to adapt to any other country which does not have the same climate. Having put in the pool last year was probably the best investment we ever made and trust me this pool is used a lot. On a weekend we are in the pool from as early as 7:30 am and it is not uncommon for Ed and/or I to have a last dip after 10pm.

The kids have gained huge confidence in the water since we got the pool and Andrew (who has always had a terrible fear of water) seems finally to be ready for swimming lessons - I must just remember to call :) Michael of course thinks that he is already an Olympic champion swimmer and he actually just needs to go for lessons to make sure that he has the right start to be able to swim well one day.

White Jacarandas - October 2009

I absolutely love the Jacaranda trees in Pretoria (where I live) and apparently there are 70 000 of them spread across the city. They are really special and make the city look so beautiful. There is nothing more beautiful than driving through a canopy of the most beautiful purple coloured flowers.


A few years ago I heard of a very special street not too far away from my work which is lined with white Jacarandas - now that is a sight to behold! Unfortunately I went to them a bit late this year (they blossom before the purple ones) and only caught the end of them, but it was still spectacular!!!

Army boys - October 2009

My brother (Robert) and sister-in-law (Katherine) bought the kids these genuine army outfits. Let me just say that they are probably the most washed sets of clothing in the house as they are worn at any and every occassion.
