7 August 2010 - Michael's batman party

My mom gave Michael a batman suit for his 3rd birthday and since then he has been semi-obsessed with batman.  When he first go the suit he wore it to creche for about 2 weeks straight - he wore it day and night.  He fell asleep in it and I had to pry it off him to get it in the wash and dry again to get back on him before he awoke in the morning - if he was not wearing it there was chaos in the house :)  Every function/party/occasion we has he was batman - it was actually so cute. 

So come his party this year guess what he chose as a theme - BATMAN of course.....

I must say it was a lot of fun getting everything sorted and organised and I even attempted my own plastic icing this year, which was really not as difficult as I thought it would be.

The kids made their own "superhero" masks (covering my garden and house in glitter, feathers and sequins in the process), played, ate sweets, ate cake and (I think) generally had a great time.  The birthday boy was in his element from when his eyes opened up at 7am until they shut again at 7pm - it was HIS day, he had waited a full 364 days for this day and if the photos are anything to go by he LOVED it.

Happy 4th birthday my little batman.

5 July 2010 - African Sunrise

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love African sunrises and sunsets. There is something magical about them and something so special. This (very) special one was taken this morning from my patio - ain't it gorgeous!!!

11 June 2010 - FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa

So after 6 years of planning and anticipation the 2010 FIFA World Cup started today. What a day - I tell you the whole country was in a party mood and the atmosphere was electric all over the place. I had the family and some friends over for the opening ceremony and the first match between South Africa and Mexico. The game was amazing and South Africa scored the first goal of the tournament and in the end the game was a draw of 1-1. I must say I was very impressed with our Bafana Bafana and so happy about the score.

A "new" room - March 2010

I never really did anything major when the kids were small in respect of their bedrooms. They were never "done up" as a nursery and we have literally just been winging it. I decided that this year I would tackle their rooms and personalise them a bit.

We decided to do Andrew's room first. I managed to find some lovely bunk beds and we shifted the room a bit, painted a wall (still need to do the art-work for it) and made it Andrew's own. the results are quite nice actually and he seems to love his room and spends much more time in it just doing "stuff". He had a sweet "reading corner" now, which he loves - the chair in it is one that Ed's grandfather made, so is also very special.

Michael is now sleeping in the room with Andrew - Andrew got the top of the bunk and Michael the bottom.

It is not completely finished yet, but at least it looks good so far - now I just need a day to complete it.

Building a pool - September/October 2008

After many years of coping with the African summers, we have eventually decided to have a pool put in. The saying is not no pain no gain for nothing - it has been quite a ride, but (hopefully) by tomorrow (or if I really wish hard) tonight we will be able to swim!!!
