24 August 2010 - Go-cart day

Michael had his first school go-cart day.  He was lookig so forward to it (apparently they practised with the go-carts at achool all week.  Come Saturday Michael was dressed and ready early already. 

Their little class did well and managed (I think) 43 laps of the course, but they were exhausted though and flopped down at the end after a good workout.

12-17 September 2010 - Celebrations, a wolf and a clown

On 12 September my gran (mom's mom) turned 88 - what an achievement!  Happy Birthday Ouma - hope there are many more years to come......

Then on 14 September Ed and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary - what an achievement :) - seriously though, I can't believe how fast 8 years have flown by.

Andrew's school concert was held this past week and he (and the rest of his class) was a wolf in the production "Jungle Beat".  As per usual it was a brilliant consert and I honestly cannot believe how these teachers manage to get all these 5 and 6 year olds to do such an amazing performance.

Our week ended on Friday with Michael (and the rest of the grade 000's) having to dress as a clown for the day.  He was in his element at the thought of being able to actually dress up in something other than his uniform, but trust me it took a lot of convincing to get him into the clown outfit - he was determined to be a cowboy (again) and we ended up compromising with allowing him to take the cowboy gun to school - not too sure how that its in with the whole clown outfit, but at least he had a smile on his face.



July 2010 - World Cup Dream Wall

Just before the World Cup kicked off in June Andrew's school got all the kids to draw a picture relating to the country or soccer.  The pictures were all put on display at a local shopping centre, Woodlands.  Here is Andrew's gorgeous contribution.

10 June 2010 - Dress-up day

I actually can't believe how far behind I am with my posts.

On 10 June (way back when) the kids had dress-up day at school.  In keeping with the whole soccer theme (sort of) there was a theme of children of the world.  I threw around some ideas with Andrew and Michael but they were not having any of it.  Andrew decided that he wanted to wear his knight costume, so he ended up being an English knight (from England) and Michael insisted (suprise suprise) on his army outfit so he was just back from war :).

Here is Andrew's school pic for 2010 - such a serious face he has going there (he probably burst out laughing just after that if I know him). I still can't get over how big he is getting......

Valentine's Day and Bakerman - 12 February 2010

Andrew was bakerman on Friday and it was also the school's valentines celebration where the kids got to dress in civvies in the colours of red, white or pink.

Now bakerman works as follows:
Every Friday a child in the class gets a turn to bring "home-made" goodies to school to "sell" for R5 to the kids in the class. This is meant to teach the kids about money and how it works and also (more importantly to me) to get the kids involved in making stuff to sell.

So due to it being valentine's day Andrew and I decided to make (or at least I made and he ate the flops) chocolates. This was the final result and I must say I was quite chuffed.

Teacher Melanie's party - November 2009

It was Andrew's class teacher's birthday last week and some of the mommies with kids in the classs got together and organised a party for Melanie. She was so suprised and the kids loved that they could have cake and sweets for breakfast (this all happened between 8am - 9am). I was just glad to be able to leave the sugar-rush for the teachers to sort out :)

Another weekend another sport event - 29 August 2009

Andrew's school had a mini olypics on this past Saturday for all the pre-primary (grade 0, 00 and 000) classes. It was actually so cute. There were about 10 events staged around a 400m track, ranging from shot-put (with a water balloon) to javelin (with a cardboard cyliner). The whole thing took just over an hour and in the end every child received a "medal", which Andrew was really chuffed about.
